Preschools Put Too Much Pressure on Children

I think Betsy Hart has got it right. Somehow the modern educational establishment has decided that "earlier" education equals "better" education.

I have a theory that if schools would slow down and teach subjects later, when kids are developmentally ready, the kids would learn more quickly (and happily?) and there would be no loss of "academic time" over the long run.

Good to see you here!!

The push toward teaching children the "basics" at ever-younger ages is sad. It's especially interesting that any "edge" these children have seems to disappear by upper elementary grades, anyway.

It's also interesting to hear anecdotes such as my parents not learning multiplication till 4th grade. In our local schools the push now is for multiplication in spring of 2nd grade. Some children are ready, but some find it very difficult at age 7.
