New Book: Zamboni: The Coolest Machines on Ice

Years ago I worked for a law firm which represented the Zamboni family, so I've always been extra-interested in the machines. Thus I was intrigued to learn about ZAMBONI: THE COOLEST MACHINES ON ICE by Eric Dregni. Looks like a fun slice of pop culture history. (Hat tip: SoCal Sports Observed.)

I learned via Amazon that there is also a children's alphabet book titled Z IS FOR ZAMBONI. Looks like a must-have for any young hockey fans, in particular.

For more info, visit the official Zamboni website, which contains the company's history.

When I see Zamboni I think of Charles Schultz and Peanuts. Here is a link:

Totally different topic. I got June Bride today and watched it. Pretty typical late 1940's movie. I loved the clothes (Edith Head I notice for Bette Davis)and seeing stuff we no longer see today like manual typewriters and prop airliners. I also noticed the heavy use of false eyelashes on Bette. I was not crazy about Robert Montgomery. I think his eye movements, the way he kept opening them wide, bothered me the most. I also got a quick glance of Debbie Reynolds in the background. I kept thinking Bo looked familiar to me and then in a search found she was Barney Fife's girlfriend Thelma Lou! The older sister Jeanne (Barbara Bates) played Ernestine Gilbreth in Cheaper By The Dozen and Bells On Their Toes. Reading her bio on IMDb is rather sad and tragic.

I'm a Peanuts fan...those cartoons you linked to are priceless. Thanks so much for sharing that, I hadn't seen them!

For those wishing to read my earlier post on JUNE BRIDE:

You found some great trivia on JUNE BRIDE. I thought Barbara Bates was familiar but hadn't taken the time to look her up. Of course! We have seen CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN/BELLES ON THEIR TOES so many times, I don't know why it didn't occur to me that it was Ernestine! (I did remember her from the end of ALL ABOUT EVE...) That was indeed a very sad bio of her.

I never saw much ANDY GRIFFITH -- that's a great cast "find" too.

I agree about Robert Montgomery -- the eye popping stuff was what I meant when I referred to his "mugging" comedy style being over the top at times. I'm not sure what that was all about as he's perfectly nice when he's acting more normally (grin). Davis is also so bigger-than-life herself, though, he didn't bother me as much as he might have in another movie.

Glad you found Reynolds -- I'll look harder next time I catch it!

Best wishes, Laura

Wow, now that you mention it, I remember a girl my age with the last name Zamboni...she was one of several children I believe...I never connected her with "the" Zamboni family. Do you remember them talking about it or anything? It's totally possible since they are all from this general area.

Thanks! Laura
