China Bans Bibles From Olympic Village

NewsBusters asked on November 4th, "Will the media notice?"

I sure haven't heard anything about this yet in the mainstream media...I first saw the story at another blog. A search of Google News shows that to date very little has been published on the topic; the most "mainstream" source being a brief piece at the New York Sun.

More information is at WorldNetDaily.

I believe this is a topic where bloggers -- simply by publicizing this ban -- can make a significant difference.

This is a time for the United States, Christian athletes, and all those who support freedom of religion to make a stand. No Bibles, no Olympics.

Thursday Update: A Reuters story claims the ban isn't true. We shall see.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, with our country the way it is in this day and age, I can see the U.S. celebrating China's bible ban instead of boycotting it.

One does have to wonder what the rules are for the Koran! :)

I saw this over the weekend on Fox News Shepherd Smith's show. It was a story on the Olympics in China and there's a list of things the athletes can't bring into the residential village. Computers, Iphones, and Ipods were banned also. They didn't mention the qur'an, but Bibles are outlawed in China everywhere so this just a continuation of current law.

Its not a surprise re the Bible ban...and its ironic considering the underground church in China thrives like almost nowhere else in the world. Heh.

I agree it's not necessarily a surprise, given the country's history re Bibles, but I think it should be made clear to China that if they wish to have the privilege of hosting the Olympic games (and the money and prestige that goes with it), they're going to have to bend when it comes to what athletes from other countries are able to bring with them. If China wants to dig in and make a stand over this, then the U.S. should leave them in the Communistic Dark Ages where they apparently wish to remain...

Best wishes,
Laura
