Coming to DVD: John Ford: The Columbia Films Collection

There's an impressive new set on the way soon from the TCM Vault Collection: John Ford: The Columbia Films Collection.

This set, which includes films out of print or long missing from DVD, is due out October 14th.

The titles in this collection:

...THE WHOLE TOWN'S TALKING (1935) with Jean Arthur and Edward G. Robinson

...THE LONG GRAY LINE (1955) starring Tyrone Power and Maureen O'Hara

...THE LAST HURRAH (1958) with Spencer Tracy and a superb supporting cast

...GIDEON OF SCOTLAND YARD (1958) with Jack Hawkins

...TWO RODE TOGETHER (1961) starring James Stewart and Richard Widmark

The set includes an introduction by Ben Mankiewicz, and according to the TCM Shop page, "Audio Commentary: Leonard Maltin discussing each title." If there's actually a full-length Maltin commentary for each title, that would be more than amazing, given how few classic film DVDs are released these days with extras.

The set also includes publicity stills, lobby cards and posters.

Also coming this fall from the TCM Vault Collection: Columbia Pictures Film Noir Classics, Vol. IV on September 16th (the release was pushed back from last month) and a Randolph Scott Westerns Collection on December 2nd (pushed back from September 2nd).

Hi Laura! Thanks for letting us know about that John Ford Columbia set...pretty much all of those titles are ones I want to get and (with the exception of TWO RODE TOGETHER) haven't seen. Nice to see that classic movie DVD releases haven't quite died out yet.

'The whole Town's Talking' is fantastic - delighted to hear that it is getting a release. I also recently saw 'Gideon of Scotland Yard', aka 'Gideon's Day', on TV and thought it was a very enjoyable police procedural.

Thanks for the feedback on those Ford movies, Judy! I've not seen either one so it sounds as though I have some very enjoyable viewing ahead.

Best wishes,
Laura
